Sohrab Tebyanian is a Chicago entrepreneur who leads Andriana Furs, where he carries practical, luxurious fur coats. One aspect of fur that Sohrab Tebyanian has knowledge of is the differences between classic furs such as mink and sable.
From a medium distance, these furs can be challenging to tell apart, as they both feature various hues of brown and mahogany. There are, however, significant differences in volume, texture, and sheen. Mink fur has a lustrous shine and appearance, due to its oil- and keratin-rich hair. By contrast, sable coats have a deep and glossy quality that is shiny almost in the same way that wet hair is. In terms of softness, mink offers some resistance when the fingertips are slid against the grain. By contrast, sable offers no resistance and is among the softest natural furs (second only to chinchilla). In terms of volume, sable presents the most substance, with a wavy appearance that is not bulky. For protection, both sable and mink are excellent cold weather choices that will keep you warm. The one other major difference between the two furs is that sable is significantly more expensive than mink, while mink offers excellent value for money.
